For Architects

Historic windows and doors must be understood as part of the architectural composition, not as isolated building components. Their proportions, profiles, materials, and detailing shape the rhythm, character, and credibility of the façade. At Antikhaus, we support architects with solutions that combine historical accuracy, technical reliability, and respect for heritage requirements.

Technical Partner for Heritage-Sensitive Window and Door Projects

Windows and doors in historic buildings are essential elements of the façade composition. Their profile geometry, proportions, and construction details directly influence sightlines, façade rhythm, and the architectural legibility of the building. Antikhaus develops and manufactures these elements according to the exact specifications of each project.

Every project is made to order. Antikhaus does not work on the basis of standardized series or mass production. Every window and door is designed, detailed, and manufactured for the specific requirements of the building, the façade, and the project brief — regardless of scope or quantity.

Restoration, Reproduction, or Both

Antikhaus covers the entire technical scope of heritage-sensitive window and door work within a single project:

Restoration — Where original elements can be preserved, Antikhaus carries out precise repair, overhaul, and upgrading of existing windows and doors, preserving as much historic fabric as possible.

Reproduction — Where originals have been lost, irreparably damaged, or are structurally insufficient, Antikhaus manufactures exact reproductions that match the original in profile, proportion, moulding, hardware, and finish.

Combined projects — In most heritage-listed buildings, both conditions exist at the same time. Antikhaus manages restoration and reproduction as an integrated overall scope, ensuring that restored and newly manufactured elements are visually and structurally indistinguishable from one another on the completed façade.

This dual expertise eliminates the need for separate contractors, reduces interface risks between trades, and guarantees consistency in quality, detailing, and appearance across the entire project.

Project Integration from the Planning Phase

Antikhaus provides technical support from the earliest project stages:

Measurement and profile surveys of existing elements
Condition assessment: restoration potential versus reproduction necessity
Restoration and reproduction strategy by element or façade zone
Technical specifications and performance data for tender documents
Sample production and submission for approval by heritage authorities
Coordination with heritage consultants, structural engineers, and site teams

Early involvement reduces planning conflicts, prevents specification gaps, and ensures alignment between architectural intent, heritage requirements, and achievable performance levels.

Design and ConstructionBased on Existing Fabric

Where original windows or doors are present, they serve as dimensional and construction references. Profiles, mouldings, hardware, glazing bar designs, weather bars, and putty bevel detailing are documented and reproduced.

Where originals are missing, Antikhaus develops replacements through typological analysis, regional building conventions, and the construction logic of the existing structure — creating elements that are architecturally consistent with the building and its period.

Performance Integration

Depending on the system and the specific requirements of each project, the following performance features are available:

Sound insulation
Burglar resistance
Bullet resistance
Thermal insulation

Availability and achievable values depend on the selected system and construction type. Antikhaus advises on technical feasibility during the specification phase.

Finishes

Standard finish: traditional linseed-oil-based coating system. It penetrates the wood substrate instead of forming a surface film. The result: superior moisture regulation, extended maintenance intervals, and an authentic surface quality appropriate for historic façades.

Full RAL and NCS color matching available. Custom color development on request.

For acrylate paints and stain systems, we apply a four-stage coating system: end-grain sealing, deep impregnation of the substrate, application of a primer or base coat, and application of the final topcoat in paint or stain with a wet film thickness of approximately 300 µm. This provides sufficient protection against weathering, UV radiation, and mechanical stress while preserving the desired aesthetic qualities of the surface.

Scope of Collaboration

Antikhaus works as the central specialist for the complete window and door scope in heritage projects. Whether the project involves pure restoration, full reproduction, or — as in most cases — a precisely coordinated combination of both, the entire scope is delivered under one contract, one quality standard, and one point of responsibility.

The architect works with a technical partner from specification through installation — without compromise in detail, performance, or historical accuracy.

We support the design of historic windows and doors with technical clarity, architectural sensitivity, and the discipline required for lasting results.

At Antikhaus, we work with architects who understand that detail is not secondary to architecture — it is where architecture becomes real.
